After we flew to the city of Flores. we got a mini bus for the transfer to Tikal National Park.  Our first stop led to a local gas station, protected by guards with machine guns.  Petrol must be valuable over there...   On the way to Tikal our driver kept picking up local villagers (good looking girls) for short trips.

Tikal view, or is it ...the planet Yavin before a rebel attack ?

We spent two days at Tikal, soaking up the mayan ruins.  This is an incredible place, with interesting temples and a jungle atmosphere.  Laurie tried to get us lost in the jungle, so my advice is to stay on the paths.  We stayed at the Tikal Inn, it had a pool and nice facilities.  Highly recommended.

We were kind of freaked out that the banditos will get us on the way to the border, so I stuffed all my money and a credit card in my socks. Of course the anticipated hold up never came, maybe we were too prepared. The only people we had to fend off were the money changers at the border. We were back in Belize for a jungle adventure and the hottest night of the whole trip at the exclusive Balmoral hotel.
