Divers' paradise.

Cozumel-Mexico
James Bond kind of stuff...
| Oct '99 Me and Laurie visited scenic La Paz, Mexico for three days of diving and the finest foods. The diving was excellent for the variety of conditions and sea life. We were aiming for hammerhead sharks and manta rays and we got to see them all. The adventure included a couple of wreck dives as well and as an added bonus we never got sick during our stay. Day one was a good warm up, as the diving was easy but less scenic. The visibility in October starts to deteriorate and the water was kind of soupy. On that first day we ended up in a slow boat that was spewing a thick cloud of diesel smoke the whole time. Day two was the most impressive (in a new boat) as we met several manta rays and a whole gang of sea lions that were cruising among our mostly Japanese dive group. This day also included an interesting wreck dive with a very strong current. The third day was reserved for hammerhead shark poking. We spent two dives looking for these creatures swimming through murky waters. The first dive only yielded one hammerhead, but the second had a tidy little group of them cruising on the bottom. The Japanese got very excited when we finally saw the sharks and tried to swim after them with their expensive camera clusters. |
